87m fraud: Court sentences Kano state Chairman of Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industries to seven years imprisonment

Justice Dije Aboki of the Kano State High Court sitting yesterday January 25th, 2018 convicted and sentenced one Alhaji Munir Sagagi, Chairman, Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industries Kano Chapter to seven years imprisoment without option of fine

The convict’s journey to prison started when he was arrested by the operatives of the EFCC following a petition by one Alhaji Nasir Abubakar.

The petitioner alleged that the convict alongside his co-accused Rabi Umar induced him to part with the sum of N8,750,000 (Eight Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira Only) under the pretext that the said money would secure him a loan which was based on equity contribution in KMC Microfinance Bank where both accused persons work.
Upon arraignment, both accused persons pleaded not guilty and the prosecution proceeded into trial.

In her judgement, Justice Aboki found no linkage between the convict and his co-accused in the commission of the crime. She therefore discharged and acquitted the second accused person.

The Judge however found Sagagi guilty as she was convinced that the prosecution had proved the case against him beyond reasonable doubt. She subsequently sentenced him to seven years imprisonment without option of fine on count two of the charge. In respect of count one and three both counts were resolved in favor of the accused persons. 
The convict was also ordered to restitute the sum of N5,500,000 (Five Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira Only) to the complainant.
